    Springtime!!!

    By Gravy Guest | April 22, 2008

    Jedi Squirrels

It’s that time of year again!! The days are longer, warmer, and filled will pollen. It’s spring!!! I know I’m supposed to be a movie critic and such, but really, who can watch a movie when the weather is as beautiful as it has been? That’s what midnight showings are for. You see, this time of year celebrates my normal routine of planning ahead to the summer blockbusters and their ever-tiring schedule of midnight and early screenings. I thought that it would be nice to go ahead and write mine out and see if everyone agrees or disagrees on my choices.

First off this year will be Iron Man. The movie just screams great summer blockbuster. I mean, look at it. Millionaire playboy dresses up and fights evil…this sounds a little familiar. I wonder why Marvel chose to put this movie out this year…possibly The Dark Knight!!! Not second in release order, but certainly first on my list. This movie will do what The Crow should have done with Brandon Lee. This movie will be seen by everyone not only for the fact that it is the second in one of the best comic book adaptations seen yet, but people who have no desire will see this just to see what kind of a character the late Heath Ledger played. It will be brilliant, no matter what, but you just know people will have something to say about it. In keeping with comic book movies, The Incredible Hulk, and Hellboy II:The Golden Army are also on the list. For those who haven’t seen the straight-from-the-comic-book styled distasterpiece that was The Hulk, be gracious. For those who have, don’t judge a franchise by its first attempt. The brilliant minds at Marvel decided to scrap the first movie in continuity (since they purchased back the movie rights) and start over with this one. And who wouldn’t want to start over, when you have someone like Edward Norton co-writing the screenplay and starring in the thing!!! This is shaping up to be a great movie, and I hope it lives up the expectations. Hellboy II will continue the saga of Hellboy. I loved the comic and the first movie, so of course I will be in line to see this one. They have already started viral sites to promote the movie. These viral sites are fakes websites to get into the movies’ world. The Dark Knight has about a half dozen of these.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is out May 16th. This continues the childrens adventures in Narnia, 6 years later for them but 1300 years later for Narnia. May 22nd sees Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This movie has been probably the most anticipated. I can’t wait to hear that John Williams theme playing in the background as a geriatric Indy rolls his walker across the ancient temple to point out some stone carvings he made when he was a child. You think they could have restarted this franchise a few years ago. It will still be top notch and good to see Harrison Ford reprise his old role.

That should be it for the midnight openers. There are so many great movies coming out this summer it will be hard to watch all of them, let alone write reviews for all of them. Must sees include Don’t Mess with the Zohan, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Get Smart, Wanted, Hancock, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder, and Dragonball. I know there are more, but that’s all I can think of right now.

So, let me know what you think. I’ll be writing a few more reviews here soon, so just let me know what movies the public wants to know, and I will hopefully be able to give you a good idea about it.

I’m excited about the X Files movie, Iron Man, and Pineapple Express. But Josh, what about the Sex and the City movie and the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2? You forget that 60% of our readers are females, hehe!

I did not forget. I just figured that if you haven’t deduced that Sex and the City is about Sex and that the movie will probably just be two hours of the same thing the show was about, you probably shouldn’t be online……….or cognisent. I have no idea what sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is about, let alone a second one. It sounds like a very bad porn movie to me.

Oh yeah! So looking forward to seeing these movies! Definitely want to see Heath as the Joker as I’ve read so many great reviews. Downey Jr should be great as an adventurous billionare with his past. X Files should be brilliant since the special effects will be better than they could afford for a TV show.
