The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards (25th Anniversary Edition!) are here, and everyone (except me) is hoping that it won’t be as big a trainwreck as it was last year! The event has ditched Las Vegas and is back in Los Angeles. We will be sure to keep you up to date with the winners and highlights, so keep refreshing your page!
Performances and Highlights:
It’s the year of Britney Spears! The singer looked as good as she did 10 years ago and took home 3 awards, including “Video of the Year”.
Britney Spears introduced the show, and she looked great and definitely did not have a repeat episode of last year.
Rihanna had an over-the-top performance of “Disturbia”, complete with tribal dancers.
Host Russel Brand starts off his set with a giant rant against the Republicans. Hmm….
The Jonas Brothers perform for the first time at the VMAs. They performed an acoustic set of “Love Bug” outside that led into something a little more “rockin”, and I’ll admit it, they were really cute!
Lil Wayne performs, with help from Leona Lewis and T-Pain.
Paramore performed “Misery Business”.
Pink performed “So What” and blew up some stuff.
T.I. performs on the Paramount back lot. Then he came inside and performed with Rihanna. *And if this is sounding lackluster it is because I am hideously sick and am hoping for the end of this so I can throw up enough to get it out of my system!
Christina Aguilera performed, and she even did a cute techno version of “Genie in a Bottle”.
Russell Brand made fun of the Jonas Brothers in the beginning of the show for wearing promise rings. Singer Jordin Sparks took offense to this, calling people who had sex “sluts”. Brand apologized, saying he wasn’t trying to “piss off the Jonas Brothers or piss on them”, but what was wrong with a bit of sex now and then?
Kid Rock performed with Lil Wayne.
Kanye West closed the show.
