aboutjeffnorwood1 Up and Coming Artist: Jeff Norwood

Jeff Norwood is an up and coming artist from South Carolina, and has learned the blues from multiple greats, such as Odell Harris, Robert Belfour, T- Model Ford, David “Honeyboy” Edwards, and the Late Paul ”Wine” Jones . Keeping alive a style of music that is quickly dying out to rock and rap, the core of his sounds comes from the Delta Blues style. Norwood’s signature sound is that of a seasoned blues-smith. His mastery of the heart and soul that goes into this style of music is the only thing that can keep this genre alive and kicking, and he is doing his best to fight that slow death.

Norwood has just released a new album called Push Pilin’. While Push Pilin’ still gives us that Southern blues sound, it ventures out farther from the traditional structure found on his former album, Awendaw.

Each song on both his albums speaks volumes for the craft that is blues. The tradional slide guitar, conservative drums, and well-timed lyrics all play a part in his music. It is a pillar of tradition while at the same time slowly playing subtle hints of the artists’ influence by more modern styles. For the lover of old style blues, Jeff Norwood is a must. Jeff performs shows all around the southeast US, and plays multiple festivals throughout the year.

About

After being alive for over three years, Gravy and Biscuits finally found its home as an indie music e-zine. The staff is a group of Southerners who love good music, from indie to bluegrass to electronic, and lots in between. Review-wise, we aim to give both intimate and informative reviews without being pretentious. Anybody can use a thesaurus, but we have Southern charm.
