‘Bozo the Clown’ Larry Harmon Dies at 83
By Jebbica | July 3, 2008
Larry Harmon, best known for making Bozo the Clown famous, died Thursday of congestive heart failure at the age of 83.
Harmon died in his home according to his publicist, Jerry Digney.
Although not the original Bozo, Harmon portrayed the popular clown in countless appearances and, as an entrepreneur, he licensed the character to others, particularly dozens of television stations around the country. The stations in turn hired actors to be their local Bozos.
Larry Harmon trained more than 200 clowns to play Bozo in local markets. “I’m looking for that sparkle in the eyes, that emotion, feeling, directness, warmth,” he said of his clown criteria.
RIP, Bozo!
