Yves Saint Laurent, the famous designer, has passed away at the age of 71.

Saint Laurent died yesterday following a long illness, according to the Pierre-Berg-Saint Laurent Foundation.

Saint Laurent launched his fashion career after taking over the Christian Dior fashion house following the death of its founder in 1957.

Saint Laurent announced he was gay in 1991 and spent most of his later years as a recluse in his home in Morocco.
