Charlie Vandergaw is a man who gave up his normal life twenty some years ago to live in the a more desolate part of Alaska. Vandergaw, who is 70 years old, was a science teacher in Anchorage, Alaska before leaving his wife and family to live in the wild. Over the years he has cultivated relationships with Grizzly Bears, yes that’s right.
Vandergaw used to be a hunter, and now states that he couldn’t harm an animal now, even if he needed to.
Many people imagine getting away from it all, and how pleasant it would be, even if it was for a short term only, Vandergaw has done this for the long term and loves it. Now, bears and other animals are his family and he feels that he is better for it.
Vandergaw will be featured this fall on Animal Planet’s Bear Man Diaries be sure to tune in and watch this guy dance to the beat of his own drum. He believes that humans and bears can co-exist peacefully, maybe he is right.
